Leinster Physical Therapy – About
Welcome to Leinster Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy is a rapidly evolving discipline. With this in mind, the need to constantly stay current is paramount. Through out this site my aim is to promote health, education and exercise. Whatever our background, these principles can have a positive effect on all of us. I endeavour to offer expert advice, educated opinions and evidence based practice.
About Me
I am fully qualified Physical Therapist from the Institute of Physical Therapy (IPTAS), and a member of the Irish Association of Physical Therapists (IAPT). The IAPT is a self regulated governing body which represents its members in Ireland. IAPT members are subject to continued professional development (CPD) as part of their re-registration policy. CPD ensures all Physical Therapists remain up to date with the latest evidence based practices.
As a running enthusiast, I have a special interest in running related injuries. Having spent the last 20 years running I have picked up a few injuries of my own. Understanding how best to manage them ultimately led me to this profession.
Of particular interest to me is running biomechanics. Enabling our bodies to move as efficiently as possible, with proper form leads us to improved performance and less injuries. Know what you are doing wrong can be tricky. Having someone analyse your form and spot poor running mechanics, is one step in the right direction to more enjoyable running. Working together to make the minimal amount of change necessary to improve performance/injury is of great importance. Making too big a change at once can lead to the development of other injuries.
Mission Statement
“To provide the best possible care using evidence based practices in the management of musculoskeletal disorders”.
Postural education and more importantly client empowerment are central principles to successful injury rehabilitation. These principles are achieved through a client centered consultation. From sports injury, to everyday aches and pains, the core elements for optimum recovery remain the same. Using current evidence based practice, treatment and rehabilitation plans are formulated and targeted to the specific needs of each client.
Based in Portarlington Co. Laois, all consultations last 45 minutes. Each consultation consists of a detailed history of the presenting problem, past injuries, work practices, family history, other life commitments. A thorough orthopaedic assessment is then undertaken with the clients permission. Following assessments, a treatment plan is formulated and explained to the client. Finally and most importantly, a specific rehabilitation plan is prescribed and demonstrated for each client.
